Artist Info

Tom Philabaum is one of the most exciting contemporary glass artists working today. He founded Philabaum Glass Gallery and Studio in Tuscon, Arizona in 1975 and continues to create and display his works there. Tom is a versatile artist, working with a variety of techniques including, most notably, dalle de verre.

Tom studied at the Toledo Museum of Art School in the early 60s which was a fortuitous time as that is the same period when Harvey Littleton, father of the Studio Glass Movement, began experimenting with glass at the school. This undoubtedly influenced Tom greatly as he later moved to Madison, Wisconsin in order to study glass under the guidance of Littleton, while also continuing his studies in ceramics. His studies focused on melding the two mediums harmoniously. Eventually graduating with a Master of Arts degree, he went into teaching but as time went by he increasingly felt drawn back to his artistic endeavors. It was at this point that he relocated to Tuscon and the rest is history.

With collections on display in numerous prestigious locations such as the Seattle Art Museum, the Rockford Art Museum, and Glasmuseum Frauenau in Germany, Philabaum Glass is celebrated and admired by patrons of fine art glass and artists alike.
