Mate, a herbal drink made from the dried leaves of yerba mate, is the national drink of Uruguay. No matter where you go, you will see people strolling around with a thermos under one arm (for the hot water) and a mate cup in the other. The mate is drunk through a special metal straw called a bombilla that filters the liquid as you drink it. The cup, also called a mate, is traditionally made from calabash gourd. Traditional mates are richly decorated and often trimmed with silver and other metals. It is this traditional art that inspires the design of the Mate Amargo Apple watch band in sterling silver. The Mate Amargo is a narrow Apple watch band, overlaid with sterling silver and decorated with brass beads that are riveted to the band.
